Think Joan Collins, Elizabeth Taylor, Marilyn Monroe and Joan Crawford. It was the glamour of Hollywood and seeing how beautiful these fabulous women looked in their turbans that inspired us to launch our new range.
We love a bit of Hollywood glamour, particularly a bit of "black and white" Hollywood glamour! When glamour meant looking glamorous rather than having all your bits out on show and the kindness of photoshop! And no, we’re not a pair of prudish fuddy duddies, we are just in awe of the seemingly effortless chic of some of these women.
As we swish and glide towards this weekend’s 89th Academy Awards, we thought we could tell you why a Dilly Daydream turban should be your best friend. We love the ease of popping them over wet hair, post shower, rather than twisting (and damaging) damp hair up into a heavy towel and then balancing it on top of your head. They are towelling lined and incredibly lightweight but cleverly still manage to stop those annoying drips from running down your neck.
A towelling hair turban gently and effectively dries your hair. They can be worn for long periods before you need to style your hair, and it would seem the longer you wear them, the softer your hair actually feels when styling. Plus your locks seem to behave much better under the brush. Not only that, but towelling turbans pretty much halve the styling time which saves you time and avoids exposing your hair to any more heat from the dryer than necessary. Which means less hair damage and therefore happier hair. Dame Joan Collins herself is well known for not using a hair dryer.
Add some treatment, a serum or the latest discovery Argan oil and you can almost hear your hair thanking you when you give it half an hour under your turban. Remove your turban, 5 minutes of styling time and hey presto, beautifully soft tresses doing exactly as they're told.
Imagine yourself in one of these turbans on Oscar night, putting on your flawless make up and wafting round the house in something elegant!
We’ve probably all seen those video tutorials on how to pack a suitcase perfectly? How to roll your clothes to stop them creasing. Or stuff bottles inside your shoes to maximise precious space. Or putting heavy items at the bottom nearest the wheels for balance and to prevent squashing the lighter stuff. But let’s face it, most of us are probably guilty of over-packing. Hands up if you bring back at least of half of the clothes you packed still unworn. But what holiday essentials can you not leave the house without? A pack of cards for the riotous games you only ever play on holiday? A favourite top, that’s been with you on more holidays than it probably should have done? Or our old friend, the corkscrew.
Holiday Hair Care
For us, our holiday essential has to be one of our shower caps. We all know that our hair takes a bit of a bashing on holiday with the damage caused by the sun, sand and chlorine, so a shower cap is always perfect for protecting your hair. And it's rather handy for covering your hair when using conditioning treatments. (More on our favourite hair treatments in a later blog.)
But there are also international “pool rules” to consider. Just as men have to wear speedos rather than trunks in French swimming pools, did you know that in Italy (and some Spanish parcs), you have to wear a swimming cap?
Putting the thought of men in speedos aside for a moment, why would you consider crushing your hair and squeezing your head in to a tight fitting lycra cap when you could glide up and down the pool in an elegant shower cap? Just saying…..
Whilst we are not suggesting for one minute, that a Dilly Daydream shower cap is necessarily practical when diving in off the 10m board, it will certainly keep your hair out of the pool water and protect it from chlorine splashes, whilst maintaining an element of glamour.
Holiday Skin Care
One new thing that will definitely be going in the suitcase this year is Garnier’s Intensive 7 Days ultra-replenishing lotion for very dry skin. Words cannot express how much we love this extremely economical everyday moisturiser. Never have we had such lovely soft, smooth and hydrated skin. Discovered by one of our other halves (yes, a man, who moisturises voluntarily!), it has now become a firm Dilly Daydream favourite.
What have we forgotten? We'd love to know what your holiday essentials are!
Unless you are one of those people who insists on or has to wash their hair every day, there are a million* reasons why you should own a Dilly Daydream shower cap.
The first and most obvious reason is to keep your hair dry; perfect if you are in a hurry and have no time to blow dry your hair; or perhaps you’ve recently had your hair “done” and want to preserve that expensive salon blow out just a little bit longer.
Probably most importantly though is the frequency of how often you wash your hair. Experts tend to agree that you should do this no more than three times a week. The natural oils which are produced to protect your hair are lost if you shampoo daily, causing an over production of oil and then a need to keep shampooing your hair. Which is exactly what we are trying to avoid.
The next thing to consider in the shower is your face! As the experts at Good Housekeeping remind us, washing your face in the shower should not be part of your beauty routine. The good news is that the large frill on a Dilly Daydream shower cap is not just there to flatter your face, it is also there to protect it from the perils of shower water.
Not just a pretty face
Next, you want to look gorgeous. No-one wants to be disturbed in the bathroom whilst wearing a plastic disposable hotel shower cap.
Then there is the décor to consider. A Dilly Daydream shower cap will look just as pretty hanging up to dry as it will on you. It is not something to be hidden away in shame in the bathroom cabinet and is the perfect colourful addition to a room full of lotions and potions.
In the pool
Finally, you might like to consider a Dilly Daydream shower cap as a bathing cap. Whilst we don’t suggest it will stay on your head whilst diving in off the 10m board, it will certainly keep your hair dry whilst doing some gentle lengths and protect it from harmful splashes of chlorine. Rather than squashing you hair into a tight latex swimming cap, pop on a Dilly Daydream creation; made to a generous size it won’t leave an unsightly elastic mark on your forehead.
For these many reasons, a Dilly Daydream shower cap is a very practical purchase. But who says practical has to be boring?
*weren’t we all reprimanded as children for exaggerating?!
